» Social Good Summit 2015 in Albania focuses on the new Sustainable Development Goals
United Nations Agencies in Albania are partnering with the Government of Albania to present and raise awareness among stakeholders about the Sustainable Development Goals and what they mean to them.
Held during the flagship event called Social Good Summit, representatives from the government, civil society, international development partners, private sector and media will be brought together in Tirana to talk about these goals that will lead development efforts for the next 15 years to come.
The Social Good Summit unites a dynamic community of global leaders and grassroots activists to discuss solutions for the greatest challenges of our time. This year’s Summit coincides with the adoption by world leaders of the Sustainable Development Goals, a new set of global goals to end poverty in all its forms, fight inequalities and tackle climate change by 2030.
The launching event of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Albania will also aim to emphasize that the new global agenda seek to build on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), implemented from 2000 to 2015, and complete what these did not achieve.
To this end, during the event the key findings of the MDGs Report for Albania will be highlighted, followed by the presentation of the SDGs. Representatives of the government, of international organizations, embassies and the business community will share their concrete involvement as per the goals, and what these goals mean to them.
The Social Good Summit in Albania is part of more than 100 Social Good Summits organized around the world to raise awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals, to be adopted by all 193 UN Member States by the end of September 2015.
The Sustainable Development Goals are 17 ambitious goals to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice and tackle climate change for everyone by 2030. UN Albania stands as a ready partner to support the country to carry forward achieving the Goals at the national level by 2030.
