United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Dr. ASHA-ROSE MIGIRO to visit Albania  » 06/09/2010

 

What: The United Nations Deputy Secretary General Dr. ASHA-ROSE MIGIRO is scheduled to pay her first visit to Albania to discuss Albania`s progress in the implementation of Delivering as One UN.

During her visit, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro will meet with the President of the Republic of Albania Mr. Bamir Topi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania Mr. Sali Berisha and the Speaker of Parliament Ms. Jozefina Topalli.

While in Albania, Asha-Rose Migiro will also visit a One UN Joint Programme on Youth Employment and Migration (YEM).

When: September 7-8, 2010

Where: Tirana, Albania

Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro of Tanzania took office as Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations on 1 February 2007. She is the third Deputy Secretary-General to be appointed since the post was established in 1997.

The post of Deputy Secretary-General was established by the General Assembly at the end of 1997 as part of the reform of the United Nations, to help manage Secretariat operations and to ensure coherence of activities and programmes. The purpose was also to elevate the Organization`s profile and leadership in the economic and social spheres.
